I really do like Hilary Swank, but she must have had a balloon payment due on her mortgage to make this after-school-special film. I’m not a cynical person and I often get drawn into some sappy movies, but this one was absolutely cringe-worthy. The only reason I didn’t give it a “zero” is that I saw it with my 11-year old and she really liked the film and its message. Maybe she’ll watch it again years from now and cringe.

Very entertaining film. The costumes and sets were great. Jennifer Hudson was wonderful in her film debut and should have a successful career. I did think Jamie Foxx may have been miscast in this movie. Don’t let Eddie Murphy fool you—that man can take on a serious role.

This film was released in 2006, but it didn’t make its way to Raleigh until January ’07. I thought this movie was brilliant. Clive Owen was terrific – as well as Michael Caine (I’ve never been a big Michael Caine fan before – but I thought his performance was absolutely stellar). The story line reminded me of an epic tale that explains a religion’s beginning.
