Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End

Let me start by saying that I’d pay $8.50 just to watch Johnny Depp eat a tuna sandwich. I love him. My family loved this movie – it was better than Dead Man’s Chest – but not quite as good as The Curse of the Black Pearl. The first Pirates film was such a hit because everyone was just expecting summer popcorn cinematic fluff – but the movie was absolutely brilliant. I was caught off guard by how much I cared about the characters. It would be hard to recapture the essence and novelty of the first Pirates movie—but At World’s End was not disappointing.

The whole family loved this movie—it was better than Shrek II, but not quite as good as the first Shrek. I am especially fond of Antonio Banderas’ Puss-n-Boots. Our cat Henry can make those pitiful sad kitty eyes—especially if he is caught outside in the rain.

This movie had a few laughs and some funny sight gags–but overall it was an asinine movie. I don’t mind over-the-top comedies (I absolutely loved Talladega Nights), but this one was hollow at its core. The only reason I didn’t give it a “zero” rating is because I really like William H. Macy and Ray Liotta.
