Bride Wars (2 stars)
This was better than I anticipated—-after looking at Rotten Tomatoes, I was really expecting a complete fiasco of a film. Not that this movie is great—it isn’t by a long shot, but it was…..perfectly adequate. My daughter wanted to see it – and since I work in the bridal industry – I thought, “Why not? Tomato Meter be damned!” It would make a decent rental on a Sunday afternoon. I tend to love any movie filmed in NYC—so that was a bonus.
Doubt (3 stars)
Though I REALLY liked this film, I think this story probably has more impact in it’s original form as a play. Who is more versatile than Meryl Streep?—-this year, she went from dazzling Donna in Mamma Mia to a rigid, plain-faced nun – with deep convictions. She is phenomenal. See this film with someone—you’ll want to discuss it afterwards. This film doesn’t need to be seen on the big screen to be fully appreciated.
